Overview
Explore the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest intact and unfilled volcanic caldera. It is indeed the flagship tourism attraction of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area measuring an area of 260sq km and extending about 20km in diameter. The crater is actually a huge caldera of a volcano that collapsed to a depth of 610m about three million years ago. Over the course of time, streams of water made their way down the crater to form little ponds.
You'll be picked up from your hotel at 7:00 am and drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area inside the Ngorongoro Crater for the full-day crater tour. Your driver will set and prepare the table for a full hot meal lunch, soup, bread rolls, main dish and fruits salad. This is followed by a glass of wine, tea and coffee. After lunch, proceed with a game drive until late in the afternoon. Drive back to Arusha for a drop-off at your hotel.
The jewel in Ngorongoro's crown is a deep, volcanic crater, the largest unflooded and unbroken caldera in the world. About 20km across, 600m deep and 300sq km in area. The Ngorongoro Crater is a breathtaking natural wonder. We will visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake in the southwestern corner which is one of the main features of the crater. A large number of flamingos, hippos and other water birds can be seen here.
